Minimum Requirements An associate degree in counseling, counseling related field or substance abuse related field from an accredited institution and three (3) years and three thousand (3,000) client contact hours under appropriate supervision of experience in the practice of alcohol and drug abuse counseling and two hundred (200) hours of face-to-face supervision. An applicant may be Approved who has education and training to include two hundred seventy-six (276) clock hours in the following areas: o 90

Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent. Determines theappropriate course of treatment.Evaluates detainees/inmates mental status as to the need for transfer.Provides psychotherapy counseling to treat illness or distress.Possesses a complete awareness of psychotropic medications, but cannot prescribe.Instructs staff and officers in suicide identification
